In this lesson we’re going to be learning Tommy Emmanuel’s cover of Martin Taylor’s beautiful instrumental ‘One Day’.
Martin Taylor wrote One Day after his son tragically died. When he first heard it, Emmanuel instantly fell in love with the song and quickly set about writing his own arrangement of it.
The key thing to focus on when playing this song is the delicacy of it. If you don’t mean it when you play it, it’s going to sound stiff, and you just can’t let that happen with something as meaningful as One Day. Once you have the techniques down, focus heavily on how good you can make every single note sound.
It’s one of the most beautiful guitar instrumentals that I’ve ever heard, and I hope you get a lot of pleasure from playing it.
One Day is no. 58 on my Top 60 Fingerpicking Songs of ALL TIME list. If you’ve not seen the list be sure to check it out and sign up to my weekly email lesson. That way you won’t miss learning any of these great fingerstyle songs.
