Six String Fingerpicking Courses and Lessons

Nothing Else Matters by Metallica (Guitar Lesson with TAB)

E minor

This is the full guitar lesson for Nothing Else Matter.

Nothing Else Matters was written by American heavy metal band Metallica, who released it as their third single from their self-titled album ‘Metallica’ (also commonly known as ‘The Black Album’). The song went on to peak at number 11 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and to become one of Metallica’s best-known songs.

This song has some challenges in it, but ultimately it’s made up of a very simple chord progression in E minor. Nothing Else Matters has a somewhat classical feel about it at times and the bridge reminds me of Spanish Romance.

Alright, let’s pick up our guitars and learn how to play Nothing Else Matters!

Nothing Else Matters Guitar Lesson (part 1)

The introduction to Nothing Else Matters is quite demanding. You have 24 bars to get through until the verse begins and there’s a lot for you to learn here. Watch out for some of the tricky hammer-ons and-pull offs that appear in bars 6 and 11. Really take your time and focus on the clarity of each note that you play.

(Part 2) - How to Play the Verse

Probably the hardest part of the verse is the rhythm, you are constantly changing between 8th and 16th notes so listen to the song over and over to really get this down. Along with that, the picking patterns change on the D and Cadd9 chords every time they come up.
