This is the full fingerstyle guitar lesson for Lyin’ Eyes by The Eagles.

Lyin’ Eyes was written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey in 1975 and this classic song appears on The Eagles’ album One of These Nights. The song reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and to this day remains one of the band’s best-known songs.

This arrangement is pretty tricky to play at times. It will certainly require some finesse to get it to sound good so you must be gentle with your picking hand and not strum/pick too aggressively. Having said that, Lyin’ Eyes makes for a great fingerstyle arrangement and once you’ve learnt it it’s a real joy to play.

Lyin' Eyes Guitar Lesson (Intro)

The intro to Lyin’ Eyes is great fun to play and not overly complicated. Bear in mind that this section of the song reappears after the chorus and is used as a bridge to get back to the second verse. Be sure to familiarise yourself with the chord shapes because this arrangement is in a slightly altered tuning and the shapes may be unfamiliar to you.

How to Play the Verse

Now let’s have a look at the verse to Lyin’ Eyes. Whilst it’s not necessarily any harder to play than the intro, it is hard trying remember it all. The verse is very long and there are many subtle variations in the melody line so I really recommend learning the lyrics off by heart as this will really help to cement everything in place.
