Feels Like Home was originally written by Randy Newman but in this lesson we’re going to be learning Bonnie Raitt’s cover of the song.

It’s a very simple piece in terms of structure and chords but as this is a fingerstyle arrangement of Feels Like Home, it certainly makes things considerably more complicated. After all, you’re playing the parts of multiple instruments all on one guitar.

As with all arrangements, really focus on getting the melody line as accurate as you can. Also feel free to change certain parts if you want to, for instance you may want to arpeggiate a certain chord slightly differently to the way I have, and that’s totally fine.

I hope you enjoy!

The Intro

The intro to Feels Like Home isn’t hugely challenging. It’s all based around a simple  C – Csus4 progression.

First Verse

It’s absolutely crucial that before you start to learn any arrangement of any song, you listen to the tune you’re going to learn. I recommend playing the track two or three times to really get a good feel for it. Really listen hard to the chord changes and the melody and then as you then start to learn to play the song, constantly go back and listen to the individual parts that you’re working on.

First Pre-Chorus

Onto the first pre-chorus of Feels Like Home now. Here I’ve employed the CAGED system and moved the F chord higher up the neck. I’ve done this because the melody climbs higher in pitch and wherever the melody line goes the chords have to follow.

Chorus

The chorus again uses a lot of chords from taken from the CAGED system. For that reason you may find this section the hardest as some of the grips are pretty demanding.

Second Verse

The second verse of Feels Like Home is very similar to the first. There’s just some subtle variations in the melody to watch out for.

Second Pre-Chorus

Again the second pre-chorus is very similar the first but there’s a few melodic variations.

Ending

We’ve covered all the parts of Feels Like Home now and so in this video I talk you through the structure of the ending.
