This is the full Fingerstyle Guitar Lesson for Everlong by the Foo Fighters.

Dave Grohl wrote Everlong in 1997 for the Foo’s second studio album, The Colour and the Shape. The song went on to reach number 3 on the US Billboard Alternative songs and to this day it remains one of the band’s biggest and most loved songs.

This arrangement is certainly not for beginners and even if you’ve been playing for quite some time you may well find certain parts difficult. Having said that, if you love the song and like the arrangement then it’d be worth giving it a go because once you’ve learnt it, it is incredibly fun to play!

Alright, let’s pick up our guitars and learn how to play Everlong!

Everlong Guitar Lesson (Intro/Verse)

In this first lesson we learn how to play the classic riff/progression of Everlong and also the verse. I’ve matched the tempo of the original band recording, if it’s too fast for you then feel free to slow down a little as the song also works great at a more relaxed speed. If you’ve not heard it, check out Dave Grohl’s acoustic version which is a bit slower.

First Bridge

After the 1st verse there is a quick bridge which then leads you back to the 2nd verse. If you find this part too tricky then play the intro progressions here instead.

Pre-Chorus

This section is really hard and requires tremendous fretting hand strength to pull it off smoothly. Don’t let that put you off though, if you’ve made it this far then you can do it.

Chorus

Into the chorus now and it’s a little easier than the pre-chorus but still it’s no walk in the park I’m afraid.

There’s just the bridge to learn now and if you’re now OK with the rest of the song then this section shouldn’t be too much of a struggle for you.
