In this lesson we’re going to learn how to play a fun fingerstyle arrangement of Don’t Worry Be Happy.

This song was written by Bobby McFerrin and was released as the first single from his 1988 album Simple Pleasures. It went on to reach the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100, knocking off Guns N’ Roses’ Sweet Child o’ Mine!

This is a really enjoyable arrangement to play. Whether you’re beginner or advanced, I’m sure you’ll love getting it under your fingers.

Don't Worry Be Happy Fingerstyle Guitar Lesson

The whole song is just three simple chords – G, Am and C – that go round and round continuously. The melody is nice and strong too, and fits into the chords pretty comfortably. Having said that, take your time as there are some tricky parts, such as the rhythm. My advice is to learn the lyrics off by heart and sing them as you pick the strings!
