This is the full fingerstyle guitar lesson for Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers.

Ain’t No Sunshine appears on Wither’s 1971 album Just As I Am and the song went on to reach number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Needless to say, this song has become a timeless classic since then.

This fingerstyle arrangement is mainly aimed at beginners, or anyone that just likes the arrangement. The hardest part is the bridge – “I know, I know, I know, I know…”. It’s not difficult in terms of technique but the timing is certainly tricky because it’s so repetitive and therefore very easy to get lost. However, a little practice will get you through.

Alright, let’s start learning how to play Ain’t No Sunshine!

Ain't No Sunshine Guitar Lesson

I recommend learning the chord progression first as it’s always very important to know exactly what chord you’re playing over. Once you’ve learnt that, start to add the melody line of the song.

If you find that this arrangement is too hard for you but you love the song, then I’ve done an easier lesson on it here which is just the chords without the melody.

How to Play the Bridge

The bridge of Ain’t No Sunshine is probably the most complicated section. Really take your time and listen to the song repeatedly to make sure you’re playing it correctly.
